Obituary

Curtis Gene McVea was born July 7, 1955 in Kaufman Texas to Emmie McVea and John Newhouse who both proceeded him in death.

He accepted Christ at an early age and later was a very active member of Illinois Avenue Baptist Church, Dallas where he served as President of the Youth Department, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Usher and Male Choir.He was a current member of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed the teachings and fellowship under Pastor, Dr. Karry D. Wesley.

At the time of his death he was employed at Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES).

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories his wife Gail. To this union he was blessed with 2 children daughter Ge'netMcVea and son CurtisMcVea II. He also leaves daughter StephanieMcVea, sisters Costa (Robert) Smith, Joann McVea, Dmetric (Michael) McCollough, brother Keith Newhouse, a supportive step-mom Johnnie Newhouse, a loving mother in law Lois Leggett; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Curtis was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and a big man with a soft heart. He was known to many as a caring mentor, guidance counselor, a father figure, and a brother who freely gave advice to anyone who asked.He was a firm believer in education and earned a Master's Degree in Education from UT@ Arlington, a Master's in Business Administration from St Ambrose University, Davenport Iowa, and a Master's in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University.

Curtis entered into the US Army in 1979 and achieved the rank of Major in 1990. He was stationed in various states, most notably at FAMU in Tallahassee, FL where he was a ROTC Instructor.

Among his many hobbies; Curtis enjoyed fishing, golfing, grilling, attending Dallas Mavericks basketball games as a season ticket holder, a long-standing Dallas Cowboys fan, and studying God's Word. His motto to his children and friends was "it is easier to stay out of trouble than to get out of trouble".

Curtis was an optimist who sought to uncover the good in everyone. He believed that everyone should be given a chance to be the best person possible. He loved his family, he loved the youth and he loved God.
