On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, our beautiful and beloved Crisoma Edley departed this earthly life and stepped into eternal rest at the age of 86. She was born in Kaufman, Texas on December 3, 1935 to Lewis and Emma Bradley.
Crisoma received Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member of Faith World for many years, under the leadership of Pastor Gene Lewis. Crisoma served as a member of the Evangelism Team, spending many Friday nights sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others. She also served on the Trustee Board. She loved Jesus and spoke about His goodness often.
Crisoma met the love of her life, Obie Edley here in Dallas, Texas. They courted during the early 1960's and were married on May 12, 1963. Their union birthed two sons, Reginald and Brian. Chrisoma and Obie shared over 49 years together building their home and family legacy until Obie's passing in 2013.
Crisoma was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. After high school, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Bishop College. While teaching, she attended Prairie View College on the weekends to earn her Master of Education Degree.
Crisoma taught elementary students for 30 years and loved working with the children. She spent a year teaching at Julius C. Frazier and the remainder of her teaching career at Elijah M. Peace in the Dallas Independent School District. Principals and teachers often praised her for her ability to reach her students, as well as being a mentor to young educators. Crisoma often shared the knowledge she acquired with her mentees and set the standard by being an example of efficiency and professionalism.
After 30 years of teaching, Crisoma retired. She spent her retirement doing the things that brought her joy…gardening, shopping and spending time with family. She would often be found working in her yard planting and maintaining her beautiful gardens. Crisoma loved talking about plants with other gardening enthusiasts and would take every opportunity to visit gardening centers. Always the teacher, she shared her passion and taught many others how to start their own gardens. Many family members' yards are another example of the knowledge she imparted. Crisoma also enjoyed collecting various antiques. She and her sister (Mott) frequently visited local shops looking for the perfect item. The two sisters were inseparable and became affectionately known as "The Golden Girls" to family and shop owners. Crisoma was an avid hostess. She loved hosting family and friends and celebrating life's moments with those she held dear. While we know a mother's love is immeasurable, the love of a grandmother runs even deeper. Affectionately known as "Big Mama" her grandchildren brought her so much joy. When she spoke of them, or when they entered her presence the look on her face
was full of love and delight. Crisoma was proud of the legacy she was leaving through the lives of her sons and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons; Reginald Edley (Lisa), Brian Edley (Lacey); her sisters Jewel Nelson and Martha Martin, her grandchildren Brandon Edley, Briahna Hofmeister (Ben), Cameron Edley, and Brooklynne Edley; a devoted niece and loving caretaker, Kimbra Lovelace; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Obie Edley, her siblings Eloise Bradley and Henry Lewis Bradley (Uncle Pug), and her parents Lewis and Emma Adams Bradley.
