Cora Lee Jones

" A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam…and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belongs to our world..but then it flies on again, and although we wish it could have stayed, we are so thankful to have seen it ascend."

Mrs. Cora Lee Jones was born in Bardwell, Texas on January 27th,1953 to the parentage of Tommy D. Edwards and Helen Jones who both preceded her in death. She was then cared for and loved by Ms. Geneva Carter until the age of 13. At the age of 13, Honic and Lucille Edwards continued to raise and love her to adulthood. Cora was a graduate of the Ennis High School Class of 1971.

Cora accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined Edwards Chapel Church of God in Christ in Ennis, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Honic Edwards. She was raised in Christ, and she was a singing and praying woman. Cora loved the Lord and took her faith walk seriously. After relocating to Ferris, Texas Cora and her husband joined God's Kingdom United Methodist Church. She stayed faithful under the tutelage of Rev. Harold Dangerfield, Rev. Sylvester Shed, Rev. Freddie Orr, Rev. Darian Pace, and currently under Rev. Roy JeRue. At her church, Cora served in many roles. She was the church treasurer, she served on the pastor's aide committee, and she was in the sanctuary choir. She served faithfully until her health became a challenge.

In November of 1975, she united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Mr. Wayne Jones. To this union four beautiful children were born: Quentas, Kimberly, Kendall, and Jonathan. She was the greatest mother that one could ever have and will truly be missed by her husband and family.

Cora was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed serving God and spending time with her family. She looked forward to attending family dinners, weekly sports activities, and celebrating the holidays. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who call her "Granny", "Grandmama", and "Mawmaw." She also became a second mother and favorite aunt to many nieces, nephews, and friends of the family who loved and respected her.

Cora was a certified medical assistant and she worked in the medical field for many years. However, she transitioned her career to the Insurance industry. She worked at CoreLogic Inc., where she retired in May of 2021.

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Cora extended her hand to our Heavenly Father who welcomed her to her new home. She was surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her father, Tommy D. Edwards; mother, Helen Jones; adopted parents, Honic Edwards and Lucille Edwards, sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Helen Young, and Bobbie Nell Coleman; one brother; Tommy Edwards; and brother/cousin, Norman Edwards; brother/cousin, Donnell Edwards; brother/cousin, Pete Charles Ray Edwards.
