Obituary

"And he said to him, 'Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise'." Luke 23:43

During the early hours on December 24, 2022, the Lord, in his divine grace, ushered Mr. Clemmie "Joe" Wilkerson into his eternal home.

Clemmie Joe Wilkerson was born April 14, 1944, in Leesburg, Texas to George Wilkerson and Abbidean Taylor. "Joe", as he was affectionally called by his family, accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He graduated in 1962 from Fredrick Douglas High School in Pittsburgh.

As a young adult, Joe moved to Dallas and met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Chaney. They married and became proud parents of three children. After moving to Dallas, Joe joined Third Avenue Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. G. Jackson. Joe loved his family and took the responsibility seriously of being a son, husband, father, and brother. He was employed by Sears Roebuck for many years. He later worked for H. J. Heinz where he retired after many years of dedicated service.

Joe was an avid domino player, and self-proclaimed "The Domino Kid". Joe had a contagious talent of making everyone laugh and feel special. He enjoyed music and absolutely loved to dance. Those who were closest to him have many warm memories to cherish for years to come.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rodney Taylor.

His memory will continue to live on through his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Barbara Jean Wilkerson; three children: Gary Wilkerson, Darin Wilkerson, and LaKedra Sheffield (Bryson); six grandchildren: Darin Wilkerson (Jaalyn), Dezmon Jackson (Yasmine), Jaila Wilkerson, DeQuarius Wilkerson, Domanek Wilkerson and Horace Gooch; two great-granddaughters: Ivoree Jackson and SiMari Wilkerson; three brothers Elbert Taylor (Dana), Larry Taylor (Johnetta), and David Taylor; three sisters: Cora Pride, Silvonia Love, and Joyce Mays (Bobby); two special aunts: Doris Coleman and Lee Jean Petty (William); and a host of other relatives and friends.
