Claude Roland Tyus was born May 6, 1939 in Washington, Arkansas to the late Lee Arthur Tyus and Naomi Williamson Tyus. At the early age of six, he was christened at St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he remained until moving to Dallas, Texas.
He received his high school education at Lincoln High School in Washington, Arkansas and furthered his education at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. Claude's notable lineage of educators, pressed him forward to complete his Master's degree from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.
His vocation led him to Bishop College in Dallas, TX where he instructed and supervised the Business Computing Services Department for twenty-six years. After his tenure at Bishop College, Claude served as an adjunct Business instructor and financial services administrator at El Centro College in Dallas. Before retiring, he spent his final "collegiate semesters" at Paul Quinn College dedicating his endless energy and knowledge in the financial aid department and campus library. Over four decades of doing what he loved for so many.
In addition to devoting much of his time helping students excel in their academics, extra-curricular activities, and personal endeavors, Claude enjoyed an active social life including travel and the Arts. He was a committed brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a dedicated member of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church until his passing.
After a lifetime of community service and self-less giving, the list of his achievements, awards, and recognition's are just too numerous to mention. Well done, well done…
Claude had a strong faith in God and he enjoyed lifting his voice in spiritual hymns. No matter the circumstances, his patience and wisdom prevailed. He always stood unshaken, saying, "it will be alright". He was the Williamson family historian and a beacon of inspiration to everyone he knew. Claude "T" was our best friend and our most avid supporter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted and loving brother, John P. Tyus of Dallas, Texas; and a blessing of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
