Horton
October 13, 1946 – May 20, 2023
The Life and Legacy of
Mr. Charlie James Horton
Charlie James Horton was born on October 13, 1946, to the late Emmitt and Willie Mae Horton in Bossier City, Louisiana.
On May 20, 2023, he ascended to be with the Lord.
Charlie accepted Christ at an early age at Bossier Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C. L. Pennywell in Bossier City, Louisiana. Charlie loved the Lord and his family dearly.
Charlie served in the U.S. Army for three years, where he spent years in Germany and other countries.
He went back to his old high school to put together an honorary event for the teachers and staff at Mitchell High School in Bossier City, Louisiana. It was an impressive event to show his appreciation to those who believed in him.
After dating for a long time, on October 11, 2000, he married Joyce McCurtis, the love of his life. He gained two daughters: Janel McCurtis and Melanie Horton through that union.
He was a businessperson and owned several businesses. Charlie enjoyed and sponsored several family gatherings and celebrations. He introduced everyone to a card game called "Guts." Charlie was very entertaining and made sure that an enjoyable time was to be with everyone. He helped many families in his neighborhood in Dallas. Charlie also mentored several young men and taught them how to do better.
Charlie lived a full life, and he was well-loved by family and friends all over Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. He bought his mother her first home. He also provided his siblings: Bobbye, Robin, and JH a place to stay until they begin working. He had a giving heart and loved people.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory and will forever remain in the hearts of his children: Ulander Shae Pettiway Holloway (Robert) of Shreveport, LA, Yolanda White of Denver, CO, Janel McCurtis of Cedar Hill, TX and Melanie Horton Lyken (Daison) of Grand Prairie, TX; nine grandchildren; four siblings, Bobbye Isom (Carl) of Red Oak, TX, Robin Brown (Steve) of Mesquite, TX, John Henry Stephenson (JH) of Bossier City, LA and Kennedy Moore (Jean) of Bossier City, LA; one Brother-in-law, Chris Harris (Jerri) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Charlie Horton was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Willie Mae Horton, his maternal and paternal grandparents Ben and Caldonia (Big Pappa and Big Mamma) Washington, Willie and Mary Jones (Big Daddy and Little Mamma), three sisters Mary Payne, Jerrilean Harris, and LaVerne Moore and one nephew Ryan Washington.
