Watley
June 14, 1943 – June 23, 2023
Bro. Charles Edward Watley departed this life on June 23, at 2:50pm. Born in Dallas, TX on June 14, 1943, to Beal Watley and Eva Mae Williams along with siblings Ollie and Erma Jean. His family attended the Beulah
SDA Church in South Dallas, where he accepted Jesus Christ at a young age.
In 1960, his family moved to Los Angeles, California and there they attended the White Memorial SDA Church.
He went to Roosevelt High School where he excelled as a athlete, winning the state diving championship and Quarterbacking for the football team with running back Mike Garrett who later went on to become the recipient of the 1966 Heisman Trophy. In the community, Charles was also kown as "UNITAS" after the famous football player Johnny Unitas.
In 1962 before finishing high school, he voluntarily joined the army where he was a Ranger Medic in the 82nd Airborne Division. During his time in the service, he received his GED, attended various colleges, acquired medals and accommodations for valor in the field as well as the community. (National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Viet Nam Cross of Gallrty. with Unit Citation with Palm leaf, Viet Nam Defensive, Viet Nam Counter-Offensive Phase I, II, III, and the Purple Heart and Bronze Star)
In 1970, he was blessed with his first son Charles E Watley in his union with Vanora Kennedy.
Later in 1972, he was blessed again with his second son Edward Jerome Watley in his married union to Sandra Watley.
On July 2, 1976, he was Honorably Discharged from the service with rank Staff Sergeant of the United States

Upon returning to Dallas, he embarked on a new career with the United States Postal Service where he worked until he retired. Now in his leisure time, Charles now known as "TWENTY" loved bowling (he once bowled a perfect game), watching sports and westerns on tv, playing dominos and cards especially pinochle.
In 1994, he was re-baptized and joined Dallas City Temple SDA Church where he served on the Disability Committee as well as participated in various community events etc.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Helen Hill Watley. He leaves behind to cherish his memory - two sons Charles E Watley (Regina) of Irving, TX and Edward Jerome Watley of Cedar Hill, TX; a stepdaughter - Sylvia Hill of Cedar Hill, Tx as well as a host of relatives and friends
