Charlene Burton Randle was born on October 11, 1936, in Tyler, Texas, to Ietha Davis and Willie Burton. At an early age, she became a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where her love for children and education would later lead her to serve as the church's kindergarten teacher. Charlene was reared and educated in Tyler, Texas, and graduated from Emmett J. Scott High School. She later continued her education at Texas College, where she met the love of her life, Albert J. Randle. The two were united in marriage on February 11, 1956, and to this union three beloved daughters were born: Phyllis, Cynthia, and Stephanie. Dedicated to learning and to the advancement of young minds, Charlene continued her educational journey and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree along with her teacher certification in Elementary Education. Her teaching specialties included Reading and Science Composite, areas in which she excelled and poured her heart. Charlene devoted her life to the field of education and faithfully served as a teacher in Fort Worth Independent School District, Big Sandy Independent School District, and Houston Independent School District. In Fort Worth, at Dunbar Elementary and East Van Zandt, and later in Big Sandy, she taught elementary students with a specialty in reading. After moving to Houston, she transitioned to teaching middle school, following many years of impactful service in elementary education.
Over the course of 34 years, Charlene helped shape, inspire, and educate some of the brightest minds. She touched the lives of countless children and families before retiring from a distinguished career in education. Charlene was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mattie Davis; her parents, Ietha Davis and Willie Burton; her grandsons, Marcellus Williams, Jr. and Ray Hill II; and
her great-granddaughter, Mya Patton.
Her impeccable legacy of love, wisdom, grace, and dedication will forever be cherished by her loving daughters: Phyllis Randle-Hill, Cynthia Dunn (Paul), and Stephanie Bullocks (Marc); her grandchildren: Tyneka Randle and Anthony Dunn (Erica); her great-grandchildren: Taliyah Patton, Austin Dunn, Eason Dunn, Nicholas Dunn, and Trinity Randle; her nephew, Dennis Randle (Alyce); Alysha; and a host of dear cousins, including Linda Wyche, Marvin Nixon, Rhome Nixon, Audrey Woods, Stephen Scott, and Andrea Hardeman, along with many other relatives, friends, former students, and loved ones whose lives were blessed by her presence.
