Carrie Alexander Cook

Carrie Lou Waller was the sixth of nine children, born on April 16, 1930, in Corsicana, Texas to Henry and Eleanor B. Waller, who preceded her in death.

Carrie professed her faith in God at an early age and was baptized at Second Mission Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas. She graduated from G. W. Jackson High School in Corsicana. She attended Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College in Prairie, Texas where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She later returned to Prairie View A&M University and obtained her Master's Degree in Education.

After graduating from college, Carrie started her 50-year career as an educator with her first teaching position at one of the elementary schools in Terrell, Texas. She also taught in McKinney Independent School District and Wilmer-Hutchins ISD before stating a long career with the Dallas ISD.

In 1950, Carrie married Ben Adair Alexander. To this union twin sons, Lowell Leon and Lionell Adair Alexander were born.

Carrie joined Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas in 1955. For the next 32 years she faithfully served as a member of the of the Women's Mission Department where she served as Secretary for many years. She also served as one of the Youth Department Directors until her twins graduated from high school.

Carrie retired from Dallas ISD after a 37-year career as a Teacher and Reading Specialist in 1987. After retirement, she married Odis Cook and moved to San Francisco, California. Carrie was again beckoned to the classroom when she realized she wasn't ready for retirement. She taught Reading Skills at John Muir Elementary School in San Francisco for another 13 years before she finally retired for good.

Carrie became a grandmother after she left Texas. During the next few years, she traveled to Texas 3 to 4 times a year to see her twins and their wives and grandchildren.

In San Francisco, Carrie joined Third Baptist Church where she served as Director of the Seniors Ministry. She was also ordained as a Deacon at the church, where he served faithfully until she relocated back to Texas.

Finally, in 2020 Carrie was back home in Texas spending her final days surrounded by her twins and their families.

Carrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Odis Cook; her three brothers, Leon C. Waller, Henry H. Waller and Douglas W. Waller; and four sisters, Elaine W. Barclay, Prudence Cook, Lessie Randolph and Imogene J. Harp.

Carrie leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lowell Leon Alexander, Sr. (LaToneau) and Rev. Lionell Adair Alexander (Sherva); four grandchildren, Karmen Alexander, Lowell Alexander, Jr., Taylor Alexander and Kamera Andrews (Michael); one great-granddaughter, Elle Monroe Alexander; one sister, Dr. Sandra Y. Seale of Aurora, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
