Calvis Barnett was born October 11, 1920 in Irene, Texas to the parents of Anika Barnett and Rob Cook. He accepted Christ at an early age, which guided him to be the natural leader he was in life.
He received his formal education from Kelly Miller High School in Milford Texas. He worked on the Center for Conservation Campaign in Mexia Texas. It was there that he left his mark of excellence on many conservation projects which are still in effect today.
In 1941 Calvis met and united in holy matrimony to Julia Boykin. To this union was born his beloved daughter Ella Ruth Barnett-Love (AC Love and son Charles Andrew Barnett who preceded him in death as a toddler.
Calvis Barnett served in the United States Army in the Second World War. He rose to the rank of sergeant and classified as a rifle marksman. He received the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign, Victory, Army of Occupation honors and the Overseas Service awards. He traveled the world in service of the United States Army and was discharged in 1946 with an honorable discharge.
Upon his discharge, he traveled the world spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In Africa, he established a conservation facility, which is currently functioning. He left his mark on congress as a spokesman for the Alzheimer federation.
He left the army and pursued a career with Braniff International Airways. After a long and successful career he retired with many certificates of accomplishments, recognitions and honors.
He later married Mattie Branch in 1950, she preceded him in death. He found love once more in life and married his current wife, Birdie Moore- Barnett in 1996.
Calvis was loved by his family, close friends, church family and a community of people that he graciously guided, mentored, assisted and taught many of life's lessons. He was known as "Pawpaw" by many and by his whole church family. Mr. Barnet was truly blessed. He will be missed.
He leaves to cherish many wonderful memories: Wife of 22 years, Birdie Lee Moore-Barnett; two daughters: Ruth Love (AC Love), and Stephanie Cicero, PhD; three grandchildren: Julie Love, Andrew Love and Robert Lee Johnson; 4 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren; a brother: Gus Jefferson; a sister: Darlene Jenkins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and a multitude of spiritual children too numerous to count.
