Brenda Alicia Hammond was born on October 21, 1951, to parents Joe and Otherine Carter in Dallas, Texas. Brenda was the youngest of three children.
Brenda grew up in Dallas where she attended J.W. Ray, B.F. Darrell, Booker T. Washington High School. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1970 where she was a band member and majorette. After graduation she attended El Centro College with aspirations to be an architect. She began her career as waitress at the Soda Fountain at Love Field Airport and later became a maid for Hilton Hotels.
She eventually moved on and began work at Texas Instruments for three year and then at MasTec. She worked briefly for Sprint and AT&T. She explored other ventures before obtaining a real estate license and became a real estate agent and commercial appraiser.
In 1973, Brenda met the love of her life Roy Cecil Hammond. They were married on January 13,1975 in Dallas, Texas. Ten children were born for this union.
