Obituary

Brenda Kennedy Gray Fields was born on October 8, 1942, along with her identical twin sister Linda, in Dallas, Texas to William F. Kennedy, Sr. and Mable Favors Kennedy. The "Kennedy Twins", as they were affectionately called, along with their older brother William "Billy" Kennedy, Jr. spent their childhood in South Dallas.

Brenda attended Julia C. Frazier, Phyllis Wheatley, and Joseph J. Rhoads grammar schools. In 1961, she graduated from Lincoln High School, where she excelled in academics, athletics, and her lifelong passion for dance. Upon graduating from Lincoln, she furthered her education with a four-year scholarship to Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, TX. While there, she was initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1963. She was also a member of the track team, the Dazian Dance Club, and the Ramniks Cheer Pep Squad. In 1965, she graduated from Huston-Tillotson with a BA in Physical Education and a minor in Biology. After graduation, she began a nearly 50-year teaching career, initially in Plainview, Texas, followed by Los Angeles, California, before returning to Dallas, Texas where she taught for over four decades for Dallas Independent School District. In 1975, she earned her Master of Dance and Fine Arts degree from Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX. Over the years, she taught health science, black history, physical education, business courses, and coached the girls' track and drill team. She received numerous accolades with DISD, including Teacher of the Year.

Brenda was a lifelong active member of Delta Sigma Theta. She was a long-standing member of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter where she served on the Delta Step Team, the Delta Dears, the Physical and Mental Health, and the Program Planning and Develop committees. In 2013, she was recognized as a Golden Honoree for 50-years of membership. Her most memorable Delta moment was pinning her twin sister 20 years after she was pinned into the sisterhood.

Brenda maintained her lifelong passion for dance everywhere she went. In Los Angeles, she performed with her dance troupe at the Hollywood Bowl. In Dallas, she opened Bekai's Academy of Dance where for over 20 years she taught ballet, tap, modern, baton, and jazz dancing. She formed a dance group, Twice Related, with her twin sister and niece, where they offered praises to the Lord through dance for over 30 years. She was also instrumental in starting the dance ministry at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship where she served for over 20 years.

Brenda gave her life to Christ at an early age and faithfully attended True Lee Baptist Church for over 40 years before attending Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship.

On November 5, 2020, while resting peacefully Brenda passed away in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her parents William Sr. and Mable Kennedy, her first husband, Marion Price, her older brother, William Kennedy, Jr., and her grandson Maverick Price. She leaves to cherish her memory her twin sister Linda Hunter-Mooney; her son Mario Price (Nyree); her grandchildren Matthew Price, Kennedy Thompson-Jones, and Maxim Price; her uncle Herbert Fajors, and a host of relatives, friends, and loved ones.
