Bob E. Vaden was born on August 16,1940 in Sulphur Springs, Texas – Hopkins County to the lineage of parents, Floyd L. Vaden and Ruth Johnson, and grandparents Lee Vaden and Fannie Smith. Bob was baptized at 11 years of age at Sandifer Baptist Church in Como, Texas. Bob also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior. A typical summer day for young Bob was an early breakfast and then rushing outside with his younger sister, Delores, with the BB Gun and fishing tackle in tow to spend the rest of the day exploring the countryside.
Bob attended Douglas High School in Sulphur Springs, Texas and graduated May 1958. His sights were set on joining the military where he proudly entered the United States Army May 28,1959 and was stationed in Germany for three years. His rank was Specialist First Class, working as and earning certification as an IBM Morse Code Operator. He was discharged honorably from the military on May 16, 1962. Bob's ultimate career choice was with the United States Postal Service where he worked for 30+ years serving the families on his assigned routes - delivering their mail and packages with reliability. He was often given expressions of appreciation. Our amazing dad, Bob Vaden, married Narene Epting after his return from the Military, and they subsequently moved to the big city of Dallas (Texas). This blessed union brought
three wonderful children into the world who definitely livened up the house. Bob and Narene were married for twenty-four years and remained friends until his passing. Though a man of few words (depending on the topic), Bob's love for his three children and family
was unmistakable. He was well-known as an amazing provider, a committed protector, a reliable friend and an all-around fun dad.Bob's hobbies, interests and pastimes were numerous and certainly demonstrated his zeal for life. He absolutely loved photography and has thousands of pictures to prove it. He was an avid reader and treasure hunter of antiques using his metal detector (he found value in everything). In the kitchen, Bob would whip up unique dishes and recipes to surprise the family for dinner. He always brought home a big catch from his fishing trips. He was also a BBQ master with his own secret sauce. His sense of humor and quick wit would brighten up any conversation. Bob loved watching good movies, educational programs, comedy shows, with favorites being Sanford and Son, all westerns, The Texas Rangers, Lifetime movies (yes,
that's right) and the Channel (he could figure out the case before the detectives). Spending time outdoors landscaping to have the lushest, greenest yard on the block showed off Bob's green thumb. Like spicy foods? Bob was ready to show off his best gardening skills with the
hottest peppers grown in Texas from his home garden. He planted plum, berry and pecan trees in the yard just right for summer snacking. If you dared to compete, Bob was a keen strategist and fierce competitor when playing Spades, Pinochle and Dominoes. He played to win! You only qualified to be Bob's game partner if you REALLY knew how to play. Lastly, Bob loved hearing the latest news about his grand "pets", Duce and Cassius "Cash".
