Betty Jean
Crowe
September 25, 1939 – October 11, 2023
Our beloved Betty Jean Crowe gained her heavenly crown when she departed this earthly world on the evening of Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Dallas, TX. Betty was a beacon of light and love in our lives and her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts. Born in Mountain Pine, Arkansas on September 25, 1939, Betty was the first-born daughter to Tommie Lee Crowe and Margie Mae Ford Crowe; later the union welcomed their baby daughter, Frances Jean Crowe Toombs completing their family.
In 1946, Betty and her family moved to Seattle, Washington. There she attended Seattle Public Schools, including T.T. Minor Elementary-where she developed lifelong friendships that were intact up until her last breath. She also attended Garfield High School for her Freshman and Sophomore years through 1956 until her family relocated to the West Los Angeles area. Betty graduated from Susan Dorsey Miller High School in 1958. She then went on to complete some college level coursework. Later she secured the role as a probate examiner for the Los Angeles County where she retired after 25 years of dedicated service. There too, she made lifelong friends who made it a point to gather with one another on a frequent basis post-retirement. Betty was a savvy, and extremely classy businesswoman with a heart of gold.
After years of being in Los Angeles, Betty, Jean, and Donald decided to make the move to DeSoto, TX in 2006. They settled smoothly and it wasn't long before they started building a new community of friends and loved ones here in the area.
She was a daughter, sister, cherished cousin, loving church member, and an amazing friend who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing and being loved by her. Her presence was a source of comfort and her smile a ray of sunshine even on the cloudiest days.
She was an avid lover of traveling and shopping with her beloved sister Jeanie, and without a doubt they both loved attending church. God always came first in Betty's life, and she lived her life to the fullest in the light of her Lord and Savior. It was evident by her faithful and active membership at Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist church. She served on the Seasons of Service Ministry where she participated in the annual back to school fair, prepping and distribution of Thanksgiving food Baskets, the Christmas Blessed tree and other service-oriented initiatives that blessed and helped those in need. She enjoyed attending Sister Hoskins' Sunday school class, where she grew in the word and built lifelong relationships with other Sisters-in-Christ. She and her sister, Jean also attended Wednesday Noon Bible Study. Betty and Jean were a part of the Senior Saints ministry and enjoyed the many activities provided: touring the Cowboy Stadium, attending the annual state fair, movies, and other adventures. She always felt so blessed to be the recipient of the wonderful opportunities Antioch provided for their senior saints. After church every Sunday morning, you would find the
two sisters in "their spot" surrounded by church members gathering to greet them. You could always expect a comforting hug, a beautiful smile and well wishes for the week. It was an annual Christmas tradition to receive Sister Betty's baked goods. She made a variety of homemade cookies and treats, bundled them in Christmas packaging and passed them out at church to friends. When you saw her with her big Christmas bag, you knew there was a bag of goodies with your name on it, a treasure so many delighted in.
Betty's kindness knew no bounds, and she had the uncanny ability to bring people together with her infectious laughter and unwavering support. Betty was a true friend to many and a confidante to all who sought her wisdom and counsel.
Betty faced life's challenges with courage and resilience, teaching us all valuable lessons about perseverance and the enduring power of love. Betty's legacy will continue to inspire us to live our lives with the same strength, compassion, and unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ as this is what she embodied.
She is preceded in death by her parents Tommie Lee Crowe and Margie Mae Crowe, and her beloved sister Frances Jean Toombs.
Betty leaves behind her cherished brother-in-law Donald L. Toombs; special cousins: James E. Buchanan, Charlene Moore, Jonell West, Promise (Brandon) Buchanan-Jones, Premeria (Elliott) Buchanan-Flavors, and a wide circle of family and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close. As we grieve her loss, we take solace in knowing that Betty is now resting eternally in peace, reunited with those who went before her.
In this time of transition, let us remember Betty as she would want us to, with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life. Her memory will forever live on in our hearts and her legacy will continue to inspire us to be kinder, more compassionate, and better versions of ourselves.
