Obituary

Bessie Mae Gaut, 73 of Cedar Hill, transitioned to her heavenly home Thursday, May 5, 2022. Bessie was born to the late Theo & Ozella Smith on January 18, 1949, in Corsicana, Texas. Bessie moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 4. She graduated from L. Gl. Pinkston high School in 1967.

Bessie worked for DISD: Sunset High School and Greiner Middle School for 27 years until she retired in 2006. She was a faithful member of Harvest of Praise Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Kevin C. Taylor.

Bessie was preceded in death by her sister Hattie Smith, 2 nephews Kedrick Smith and Samuel Williams, close friend Nora Coleman.

She leaves to cherish her lovely memories: 3 kids Melvin (Beulah) Gaut, Teronica Shaw and Brandon Gaines; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; Sisters Linda, Sonya (Mike); brothers Lorence, Jessie (Claudia), Theo Jr., Alphonso (Letha) and Marcus; Goddaughters Trechia & Twila King; close friends Mary Porter, Viola Collins, Brenda Smith and Tamera Gaines; and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
