Bennie Jean Husk-Lister was born on March 19, 1929 to the parentage of Mitchell Husk and Annie Mae Laurance-Husk.

Bennie accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Crest Moore United Methodist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Zan Holmes Sr. She later united with Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. Alton Paris where she was a dedicated and faithful member.

Bennie spent her formative years in Cleburne, Texas. She earned her undergraduate degree from Texas College in Tyler, Texas and attained her master's degree at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.

Bennie had a charming personality and a beautiful smile that drew people to her. She was an active member of numerous professional organizations including membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha (Golden Soror) and Phi Delta Kappa.

Bennie will be cherished in memory by her daughters, Paula Lister Hughes and Pamela Harper (Danny Harper); Brother-in-Law, Frederick Lister; Sister-in-Law, Lillie Lister; Grandchildren, Jamiel Hughes, Paul Hughes, Brett Harper, Collin Harper, Devin Harper and Kori Brown; Four Great Grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
