Obituary

Beatrice Cherry Jones was born April 4, 1930 in Bryarly, Texas.  She was one of nine children born to Sercy and Ophelia Dilworth. She was educated in the Haywood, Tx school system.  Beatrice was happily married to Nathan David Jones who was her partner in life for 20 years, until the time of his death.  To this union, five children were born.

Beatrice had a passion to serve and care for others.  After graduating from nursing school in Texarkana, Tx, she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  During her tenure as a LVN, she worked at Parkland Hospital, Baylor University Medical Center, and Shelton Clinic in Dallas, Tx.  She united with Salem Institutional Baptist Church under the Rev. Dr. J.W. Washington.  At Salem, Beatrice served in several ministries including the nurses' guild, Sunday School, mission, and the kitchen ministry.  She remained a faithful member at Salem for over forty years.

Besides spending time with her family and friends, Beatrice loved to cook and work in her yard.  Beatrice had a bright and energetic personality and was known for her ability to work hard and overcome obstacles.  It was not uncommon for her to drop everything in order to care for one of her family members.  She touched so many lives with her sweet spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sercy and Ophelia Dilworth; her husband, Nathan David Jones; her sons Donald Jones and Curtis Jones; her brothers, J.R. Dilworth, Erie Dilworth, Isiah Dilworth, and Lawrence Dilworth; her sisters, Madge Gurley and Odeal Wilson.

Beatrice leaves to cherish her memory: three children Vera Mitchell (Tyrone), Marshella Atkins (Tennell), and Rickey Jones (Allison); grandchildren, Patrice Weaver (Raymond), Keenan Willis, Rashad Webb, Julian Jones, Todd Atkins (Michelle), Tyler Atkins, Khalil Willis, Aerielle Jones, Darsha Mitchell, Rickey Jones Jr., and Quincy Jones; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Wink and Connie Rucker, both of Aurora, Co; a special longtime friend Evelyn Hurd; and a host of other relatives and friends.
