In Loving Memory of Barbara Muse
Barbara Muse peacefully departed this life on April 30, 2025. She was the cherished youngest
daughter of the late Harry Shields and Elizabeth Landry Shields.
Born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, Barbara attended Lincoln High School, where she shined as
a cheerleader and student council member. After graduating in 1963, she went on to study at
Prairie View A&M University. There, she met the love of her life, Clarence Muse, a talented track
star.
Barbara and Clarence were married on October 28, 1967. Their love story spanned 57 beautiful
years filled with shared adventures, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their journey together
included living in various places – including Denver, Colorado, Tacoma, Washington and Wash
ington, DC before settling in Dallas, TX in 1976 after Clarence completed his service in the U.S. Air
Force.
They shared a passion for travel, especially cruising, and rarely missed their favorite getaways– the
annual Jazz Cruise or the Olympics.
Barbara built a successful career as a Senior Claims Adjuster at Cigna Insurance Company, where
she worked until her retirement. She and Clarence were blessed with two sons, Rodgerick Muse
and Justin Muse.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Barbara later joined her husband in worship at Oak Cliff Bible Fellow
ship, where she became a devoted member in 1985. Clarence served in the Usher Ministry while
Barbara served in the Hospitality Ministry and Life on Life. Barbara faithfully served in the Hospi
tality Ministry and Life on Life. She had a deep passion for regularly meeting with the ladies, al
ways bringing warmth and encouragement. Even when she became physically unable to attend in
person, she looked forward to the Zoom meetings, continuing to offer kindness and grace to every
one she encountered.
Barbara will be remembered for her joyful spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family
and community.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Clarence Muse; sons Rodgerick Muse
(Diane) and Justin Muse; and sisters-in-laws, Lucretia Jones, Fannie Davis, and Jenell Hollie. She is
also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elizabeth Shields; her sister, Lloyd Marie
White; and her brother-in-law, Robert White.
