Audrey Nell
Edwards
April 10, 1936 – August 29, 2017
Audrey Nell (Joe) Edwards was born on April 10, 1936, to Hattie and Johnny Joe in Dallas, Texas. She was the 4th child out of 5 children. Audrey attended Lincoln High School.
Audrey worked at General Electric for 25 years before retiring. After retiring from G.E. she became a childcare provider at the ChildCare Group. She was employed there for 20 years. She enjoyed working with the children because she believed they kept her young.
She was a very giving and kind woman to her family, friends, and strangers alike. Audrey was a regular donor to the St. Jude's Children's Fund. She also assisted in the caregiving for her baby sister, Doris, until her death last year.
Audrey accepted Christ at an early age. She was a servant at Christ's Willing Workers Baptist Church before becoming the First Lady at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Churchfrom 1985 until 1988. Later, her membership moved to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she served as First Lady again from 1988 until 1999. Audrey remained a faithful and active member there until her death, under the leadership of Rev. H. W. Chism. There she served in many roles including Sunday School superintendent and teacher, president of the Mission board, a Deaconess, sang in the choir, chaired several events, and gave numerous talks. If there was anything else that needed to be done, she would do it. She was definitely a foot-soldier for her Lord & Savior.
Audrey Edwards was preceded in death by her parents Hattie and Johnny Joe, brother Robert Joe, sisters Dorothy Johnson and Doris Phillips, and great grandson Tobias Williams.
Audrey leaves to cherish her memory, her only child Joyce Sorrells of Dallas, TX; granddaughters Sheneque Williams (Travis) and Nikisha Shaw (Andre') of DeSoto, TX; great grandchildren Taylor, Sheldon, and Samaya Williams, Cameron Dixon, Jacobii Mullins, Caitlin and Trenton Shaw, and Kendall Adams; great-great grandchildren Ziren and Legend Adams, and Aaliyah Mullins; sister Henry Horton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
