Obituary

Attellia Giles, affectionately known as "Tenny," "Tilly," and "Tellia," was a woman whose life radiated kindness, strength, and an unwavering faith that deeply touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on November 29, 1943, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Sallie and Al Ja Lewis, she carried their legacy of love, resilience, and perseverance, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration to her family and community.

After spending some time in Chicago, Illinois, Attellia settled in Dallas, Texas, where she would build a rich and fulfilling life. Her career at the Texas Workforce Commission spanned 30 years, during which she earned numerous accolades for her dedication and excellence. Alongside her professional accomplishments, she was committed to personal growth, earning an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from El Centro College. In the early 1980s, she also worked part-time at Macy's and continued to serve others with a spirit of generosity until her retirement in 2017.

Attellia's faith was the foundation of her life, and she was an active and cherished member of both St. Matthew Baptist Church and Pearly Gate Baptist Church. Her love for music was evident as she sang joyfully in the choir, and she found great fulfillment teaching Sunday School, nurturing the next generation of believers. Her presence in her church community was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.

Above all, Attellia's greatest pride and joy came from her family. She leaves behind four devoted sons: Terry Lewis and his wife Kimberly (Cordova, TN), Carthy Lewis and Shirley Lewis (Natchez, MS), and Trelvis Giles and Theismon Giles (Dallas, TX). She is also survived by her beloved brother, Marvin Lewis and his wife Etta (Grand Prairie, TX), as well as nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who were blessed to know her.

Attellia is now at peace, reunited with her parents, Sallie and Al Ja Lewis; her sisters, Hannah and Katherine; her younger brother, Willen; and her nephew, Reginald. While she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her life.

Though she is no longer physically here, her spirit continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her love remains a guiding light for those who carry her memory.
