Obituary

Anthony was born on October 23, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to Marel and Oliver Jones. From an early age, he showed a drive for learning and achievement. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and later pursued higher education at Texas Southern University, where he earned his science degree. After graduating, he began his career working alongside his big brother at Welby's Pharmacy in Dallas, Texas.

While pharmacy gave Anthony a strong foundation, his entrepreneurial spirit led him into new directions. He had a gift for seeing opportunities, and his passion for cooking and connecting with people took him into both the restaurant and sales industries. Among his many accomplishments-one of the ventures he was most proud of was founding his own business, Cash Register Warehouse. It was a reflection of his independence, determination, and belief in building something of his own.

Anthony was also a man of many interests. He was a lifelong reader with a deep love of books—especially religious writings, mysteries, and science fiction. His favorite author, James Patterson, kept him turning pages late into the night. He loved gospel music, the smooth sounds of Michael Franks, and the uplifting energy of Kirk Franklin. Music and reading fueled his spirit, but so did adventure and family. Gatherings were a source of joy for him, and he never missed an opportunity to share a laugh, a story, advise, or a meal with those he loved most.

Our father had a way about him that could not be ignored. He commanded a room the moment he entered, not through force, but through warmth, humor, and a spirit that shone like rays of sunshine. You could not help but feel lighter in his presence. Known for his impeccable sense of style, Anthony believed in carrying himself with dignity and pride. To him, dressing well was not just about appearance, but about honoring himself and those around him. You would always see him with a crease in his pants and his long nails perfectly manicured.

His family and friends had many names for him—Pretty T, Sookie, Mr. J, Pappa J, Uncle Anthony, Daddy, Jonesy, and more. No matter what name you called him, everyone knew him as someone who brought light and joy into their lives.

He also expressed his love through food. Anthony had a gift for cooking and if you ever had the privilege of sitting at his table, you knew how much love he poured into his cooking. Whether it was an exquisite dish or a simple down-home meal, he seasoned every plate not just with skill, but with love, hoping it would soothe your soul.

What stood out most about Anthony was his love for the Lord and his giving heart. He was constantly trying to uplift others, especially those who were struggling. Whether through encouragement, advice, or simply showing up with kindness, he had a way of reminding people of their worth.

Anthony's life was one of resilience, creativity, style, and care. Though he has left us in body, his spirit lives on in every life he touched, every lesson he taught, and every moment of love he shared. We will remember him not only for what he accomplished, but for the way he made us feel—seen, supported, and loved.

May his memory continue to inspire us to live fully, to lift others, and to cherish the bonds of family and community, just as he did.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Jones; his mother, Marel Parker (Verbert) Jones; and his siblings, Welby Lockley Jr., Joseph M. Jones, Jacqueline Lockley Albright, Jerry M. Jones, and Collette Lockley Williams.
