Obituary

Angelia Denese Mason was born on August 22, 1953, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Raymond and Meda Mason. She was raised with Midwestern grit and Southern soul. Angelia's life was a powerful blend of purpose, grace, and fearless exploration.

She graduated from Eastmoor High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1971, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Speech Communication from the University of Cincinnati in 1975. While at the university, Angelia showcased her many talents— writing for the Columbus Dispatch, Citizen Journal, Call and Post, and News Record, freelancing as a copywriter, and capturing people's stories through her lens as a portrait photographer. She was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

On February 26, 1979, Angelia began what would become a remarkable 41-year career as a Flight Attendant with American Airlines. Over 15,193 days, she flew across the world—to France, Germany, South Korea, India, China, Monaco, and more. Of all the places she traveled, Ireland held a special place in her heart. (Maybe it was the beer). Her total service amounted to 2,170 weeks and 3 days—363,632 hours of travel, care, and dedication. If anyone embodied the phrase, "I get around," it was Angelia. She retired on October 1, 2020, officially hanging up her wings and
closing an amazing chapter of an incredible journey.

Angelia's most enjoyable pastime was tending to and riding her beloved horses, Oreo and Candy, which she enjoyed doing for many years. She loved attending Concord Church, where she was a dedicated member for over 40 years, serving in the following ministries and Grow Groups: Usher Ministry (20+ years), Wednesday Night Bridge (Prayer and Bible Study), Arlington Grow Group, Darryl and Yvonne Thornton (Leaders), The Love Grow Group (Diane Clinkscale, Leader), "Sisterhood"—Concord Women's Bible Study, "Concord Kids Create"—Summer Crafts Event Volunteer, Harmony CDC Food Pantry Volunteer, Life Ministry (Senior Adult) Volunteer, Grandparents "Gram"—Sheila Bailey Ministries Volunteer, Concord Church Front Desk Volunteer Receptionist, and E.K. Bailey Preaching Conference (Bookstore Volunteer) for multiple years.

Angelia showed her faithful love and support for Concord Church by giving of her time, talents, and treasures. Angelia loved the old church hymns, and she would celebrate whenever our choir sang them. "Yes, trouble don't last always, because King Jesus will take care of you!"
She said, "I've got two CDs of the old hymns from a friend in Ohio; I listen to them in my car and have a Hallelujah good time singing along." Angelia's warmth, wit, charm, and adventurous spirit touched every corner of her life, from the American Airlines aisles to the pews at her beloved Concord Church. She leaves behind a legacy of fearless living, trusting in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a host of loving cousins and extended family, including Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Banks; Mr. and Mrs. Janice Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Hermine and Oliver Henry, Jr.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne and Pam Walston; Mr. and Mrs. Iris Bradley; Terrence and Gwendolyn Walston; Rosalind Walston; and Tony George.
