born August 13, 1949 In Hughes Spring, Texas to the parentage of Ambus and Guthrie Davis; however due to the early death of his mother, he was raised by Mrs. Lottie Allen, "Mama Lottie" the only mother he ever knew. Ambus united with the Macedonia Baptist Church in Linden, Texas, at an early age. It was also in Linden that he attended Fairview High School, where he was a stand-out football player and was nicknamed by his friends as " Boomer". He was recognized as " Ray" or "Uncle Ray" by his family.
On July 12, 1988 Ray united in marriage with Sharion " Barnett" Davis, a union which lasted until his death. He was a member of Temple of Praise Church, in Dallas, Texas where he formed a special bond with the Pastor, Bobby Williams, II, and where he was loved and known by his church family as " Brother Ray".
Because of his expertise in the field of maintenance, Ray landed a number of positions as maintenance supervisor the last of which was in the Lakewood area of Dallas. Lakewood County Club. After leaving Lakewood, Ray started his own business which entailed home renovations, electrical, heating and plumbing repairs. He was committed to his job, good at what he did and took pride in the way his job was done. In later years, a stoke and some other medical issues left Ray unable to work.
Ray passed away on January 1, 2021 at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by both biological parents, Mrs. Lottie Allen ("Mama Lottie"), the mother he knew and loved, his sister, Joe Ann White and his brother, Billy Joe Davis.
Ray's survivors include his wife of 32 years, Sharion Davis: son Ambus Davis, III ( from a pervious marriage); two sisters-in-law, Wallace Perry (Katherine) and Gerald Perry (Leaola). Also among those surviving him are nephew, Melvin Spelling (Janet) and niece, Lottie Chequita Mitchell (Jerry); cousins, Ed Davis, Marvin Goree (Betty) and Charles Jackson, and long-time and friend, Larry Gibbs, who proved to be a special blessing, particularly after Ray's decline in health, and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever remember him.
