Alethia Victern Mitchell was born November 21, 1935 in New Roads, Louisiana to the parentage of Mr. Clarence Victern and Mrs. Beatrice Victern. Alethia attended school in New Roads then later moved to New Orleans with her father and continued her education there. Upon graduating high school she attended Southern University receiving her degree in early childhood education.
She united with New Birth Baptist Church where she accepted Christ and faithfully sang in the choir. She met and married the love of her life, Mr. Melvin I. Mitchell, Sr. on June 21, 1954 and to this union six children were born.
Alethia was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin I. Mitchell, Sr.; father, Clarence Victern; mother, Beatrice Davis; sister, Annette Esco, and sons, Elijah Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell.
Left in God's care to cherish her memories are three sons, Melvin Mitchell, Jr. (Corliss), Donald Mitchell, and Angelus Mitchell; two daughters, Althea Mitchell Wilkes (Vincent) and Melissa Gibson; thirteen grandchildren, Melvin, Marion, Melissa, Vanna, Shaka, Ollie, Kourine, Alyssa, Kourtne, Kourtlon, Gary, Dale, and Cornell; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
